Invisalign oral aligners are a series of clear, removable orthodontic appliances that fit snugly over the surface of your teeth. Unlike traditional braces, there are no brackets, wires, or rubber bands involved. Instead, Invisalign aligners place gradual pressure on your teeth, slowly aligning them and improving the aesthetic appearance of your smile.
In addition, Invisalign aligners are FDA-approved and manufactured using a proprietary thermoplastic known as SmartTrack®. SmartTrack is BPA, BPS, and gluten-free, making Invisalign an ideal orthodontic treatment for people with allergies.
Invisalign oral aligners can correct a variety of orthodontic issues including:
However, more complicated orthodontic issues like overcrowding and large gaps may require the use of traditional braces.
If you lead a busy lifestyle, want a straighter smile, and have put off orthodontic treatment due to fears of traditional braces, you can benefit from Invisalign.
Dr. Smallwood recommends Invisalign treatment for adults and teenagers with mild or moderate orthodontic issues. Generally, Invisalign aligners aren’t recommended for children 14 or younger because their teeth are still growing and many kids aren’t mature enough to handle the day-to-day maintenance required.
At the beginning of treatment, Dr. Smallwood or another provider takes 3D scans and digital X-rays of your teeth. The team also performs an oral exam and discusses your goals for orthodontic treatment.
A week or two later, your custom aligners arrive at the office and you return for your second appointment. Dr. Smallwood makes sure they fit and ask you to wear them between 20-22 hours each day. Over the next few months, your aligners gradually start shifting your teeth into position.
You come in for follow-up appointments every four to six weeks where Dr. Smallwood checks on your progress and provides you with new sets of aligners. Whenever you put in a new set of aligners, you may experience slight pressure or discomfort for a day or two. This is perfectly normal and should subside quickly.
Invisalign aligners typically take between one and two years to produce the desired results. However, you’ll notice a visible difference in your smile within the first two to three months. After you’re finished wearing your aligners, you’ll transition to wearing a retainer.
If crooked or misaligned teeth are preventing you from living your best life, Invisalign treatment is worth considering. Call the Centre for Contemporary Dental Concepts or use the online booking tool to request your appointment today.
